Why do we decorate for Halloween?

As the harvest season came to its wintery close, ancient pagan Celtic people honored the gods and goddesses of the harvest by holding the celebration. Samhain was considered a time for the people to show gratitude and to pay homage to the gods of the harvest who the people felt were responsible for their bounty.
